Welcome to Fort Macleod International Festival

Be part of a new idea-
a place where rising stars and musical legends play side by side,
learn, live and explore great chamber music together
in the expanse of Alberta’s West,
where audiences are part of enduring discoveries.

A thank you from Rivka Golani, festival director and Gerard Gibbs, Empress Theatre executive director

Rivka violinThe fifth annual chamber music festival, recently renamed Fort Macleod International Festival was a wonderful success and we, the organizers hope you enjoyed the festival as much as we did and would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you for attending.

Many of the musicians you heard in 2010 will be back for the 2011 festival including Anton Kuerti and Ben Ellin who composed the highly lauded Siksika for this year's festival.  Ben has agreed to write another piece based on Blackfoot culture for the 2011 festival.    In addition, we will have not just one, but two of the top percussion ensembles in the world, the Amadinda ensemble from Hungary and Canada's own Nexus!

We are also very excited to announce our partnership with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra in their New Music Festival.  Two of next year's festival concerts will be in Calgary at the the Grand Theatre - Friday evening as part of the New Music Series, and Saturday Rivka Golani will premiere a new concerto by composer Stephen Montague with the CPO.  The venues for the other concerts will include the Empress Theatre, Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump and the Galt Museum.

To experience another exciting, music filled weekend again, mark your 2011 calender for May 26 through 31, 2011.

Have a wonderful summer and we will see you in Spring 2011!
